Galls, Diseases, and Pests - Aphids : Oleander Aphids
Aphis nerii

Oleander Aphids at Rockville Hills Regional Park can be found on milkweed plants. The aphids are all females because they are parthenogenic, which means they clone themselves and don't require mates to reproduce. As long as the population of aphids on a milkweed plant stays small, the plant can remain healthy. But when the aphids crowd onto a plant, they can destroy it quickly as they feed by sucking the "juice" out of the plant.
